Before, I only remember fireworks by their bright colors and their varying shapes across the night sky. But after experiencing the Mascletá for the San Juan celebration in Alicante, it gave me a complete mental-shift of how I perceive fireworks.
The Mascletá is the firecracker that makes very loud noises during the show. That also implies a more masculine show of fireworks during the day (at 2pm each day during the week of San Juan celebration) compare to the more beautiful (or feminine) firework show at night time that we are more familiar with.
The Mascleta show really is intriging to all five senses. During the the full 10 minuets of carefully composed rhythm of firecracker noise that sound almost like drum beats, white smog covered the surroundings; the smell of gunpower fills the air, and the noise of each firecracker explosion was more heart felt than heard, as if something was pounding on my chest. Even after the show ends the sound of firecrackers still echos in my head, and my body still shivers from the earthshaking sound that imprinted in my body.
The first sound of explosion almost as cannon shots into the air.
despite the bright sky, shimmers of color and the trajectory
of the fireworks still can be seen.
next thing you notice is the smell of gunpowder that fills the air
The finale, with color, smoke, and earthshaking noise
and the big cheers and whistles afterwards
